Quest™ Dry Field System Instructions for Use
Patent Pending

The Quest Dry Field Intro Kit is packaged with the adult device pre-assembled for your convenience.

Prior to inserting the device:

  1. Verify that the rings of the tongue shield do not block the suction holes. If they do, simply rotate or slide the tubing into the proper position. (Figure 1)
  2. Instruct the patient to open as wide as possible while you insert the device, and then to close lightly to hold it position.
Figure 1

To insert the tongue shield:

  1. Insert cheek retractor. (For patient comfort, first apply a small amount of Vaseline or lip balm to the corners of the patient's mouth.)
  2. Hold the assembled device at a 90° angle. Some find it easier to hold the suction tube. You may prefer to hold the tongue shield itself. The front of the device should face downward. (Figure 2)
  3. Insert in this position, seating the lower portion of the device into the floor of the mouth. The patient should retract the tongue slightly, allowing you to "scoop" the tongue into the device. (Figure 3)
  4. Instruct the patient to relax the tongue, as you upright the tongue shield. They should not push the tongue forward. (Figure 4)
  5. Once inserted, the palate should rest on the rigid portion of the tongue shield. Instruct the patient to close down slightly to maintain the device's position. (Figure 5)
  6. Verify that all suction holes are visible, and unobstructed by tissue.

Final Preparation for use:

  1. Connect the tubing to your suction source.
Note: The device is pre-assembled with a low-volume suction adapter. You may replace it with the included high-volume adapter if necessary.
  2. Generate suction as needed.

Sterilization:
The tongue shield should be sterilized with a clear cold-sterile solution. Other solutions may cause discoloration. Tubing can be cold sterilized or autoclaved at a temperature of up to 250°F.

Assembly for re-use:

  1. Be certain that the cap is inserted in the suction tube, in the end closest to the suction holes.
  2. Thread the open end of the tubing through the ring on the lower right side of the tongue shield. (It may be helpful to trim the end of the tubing first if it has been widened by the suction adapter.)
  3. Continue threading the tubing through the remaining rings.
  4. The capped end of the tubing should be at the distal edge on the right side.
  5. Verify that all suction holes are visible, and are not blocked by the rings.
  6. Thread the open end of the tubing through the anterior opening.
  7. Attach the low-volume or high-volume suction adapter to the tubing.
  8. Attach the adapter to your suction source and generate suction as needed.
